Valentinian I fought several wars with the Alamanni, Quadi, and Sarmatians. He defeated the Alamanni in 367 and 370, and in 374 he defeated the Quadi and Sarmatians in the Battle of Argentovaria. These victories helped to secure the frontiers of the Roman Empire in central Europe.
