Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was born in 1900. She was an Indian diplomat and politician, and the sister of Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister. She served as India's ambassador to the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She was also the first woman to be elected president of the United Nations General Assembly.
