Vincent John Martin, better known by his stage name Vince Clarke, is an English musician and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of the synth-pop bands Depeche Mode and Yazoo. Clarke was born in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, England, on July 3, 1960. He began playing the piano at a young age and later studied music at the Southend College of Technology.
