Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Molotov, born Skryabin, was a Soviet statesman and diplomat who served as the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs from 1939 to 1949 and again from 1953 to 1956. He is best known for his role in the signing of the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact with Nazi Germany in 1939, which paved the way for the outbreak of World War II.
