The Singing Revolution was a nonviolent anti-Soviet movement that took place in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Vytautas Landsbergis, a Lithuanian musicologist and politician, played a prominent role in the movement, serving as the chairman of the Lithuanian Sąjūdis movement and later becoming the first Chairman of the Supreme Council of the restored Republic of Lithuania.
