The mass killings took place in Bromberg, also known as Bydgoszcz, a city in central-northern Poland. On the first day of September 1939, German forces comprising a police battalion, a customs unit, and local SS and SA men executed between 50 to 120 Polish civilians, mostly prominent figures of the local Polish and Jewish communities.
