  • Maybe

Answer

The answer is yes. Walter Bruce was the only Moderator to be appointed for a period of 20 years. He was appointed by James VI in 1578, and served until his death in 1598. During his time as Moderator, he helped to establish the Church of Scotland as an independent body, and he also played a role in the development of the Presbyterian system of government.
