Walter Frederick Mondale was born in Ceylon, Minnesota on January 5, 1928. He is an American politician and lawyer who served as the 42nd vice president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 under Jimmy Carter. He was also the Democratic Party's nominee for president in 1984, losing to Ronald Reagan.
