Werner Arber, born in 1929, is a Swiss microbiologist and geneticist known for his pioneering work in restriction enzymes and their role in molecular biology. Along with Hamilton Smith and Daniel Nathans, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1978.
