Wilhelm Wien made the discovery that black-body radiation follows a certain pattern, known as the Wien displacement law. This law states that the peak wavelength of black-body radiation is inversely proportional to the absolute temperature of the body. In other words, the hotter the body, the shorter the wavelength of the peak radiation. This discovery was a major step in the development of Theory of quantum mechanics.
