Pittsburgh was the city where Willa Cather worked as a magazine editor and English teacher. She taught at Pittsburgh High School for Girls from 1896 to 1897, and then served as an editor at McClure's Magazine from 1906 to 1912. During her time in Pittsburgh, Cather also began writing her first novel, Alexander's Bridge.
