Mary Wollstonecraft was the first wife of William Godwin. She was a prominent feminist writer and philosopher who is best known for her book A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She and Godwin had two children together, Fanny Imlay and Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin. Wollstonecraft died in 1797 after giving birth to her daughter, Mary Shelley, who would later become the author of Frankenstein.
