William Halse Rivers Rivers was a British anthropologist, ethnologist, and psychiatrist. He is best known for his work on the psychological effects of war, and for his development of the concept of culture shock. Rivers was also a pioneer in the use of hypnosis and dream analysis in psychotherapy.
