William Hyde Wollaston was born in East Dereham, Norfolk, England in 1766. He was a British chemist and mineralogist who was the first to discover the elements palladium, rhodium, osmium, and iridium. He also invented the reflecting goniometer, a device for measuring the angles of reflection of light.
