Captain William Kidd, also known as Captain Kidd or Robert Kidd, was a Scottish privateer who became a notorious pirate. He is best known for his expedition to the Indian Ocean in search of pirate treasure, during which he captured several merchant ships. Although he was initially hailed as a hero upon his return to England, he was later arrested and hanged for piracy.
