William Robertson was born in 1860. He was a British field marshal who served as Chief of the Imperial General Staff from 1915 to 1918. Robertson was a conservative and a strong believer in the primacy of the army. He clashed with David Lloyd George, the British Prime Minister, over the conduct of the war. Robertson was ultimately dismissed by Lloyd George in 1918.
