Felix Mendelssohn was a prominent admirer of Bennett's compositions. He performed the latter's "Allegro di Concerto" at a concert in London in 1842. Mendelssohn was also impressed by Bennett's overture to "The Naiads", which he described as "a masterpiece of delicate grace and refinement". Bennett was a gifted composer and conductor, and his music was widely admired by his contemporaries.
