Artaxerxes I succeeded Xerxes I as the king of the Achaemenid Empire in 465 BC. After Xerxes' assassination, Artaxerxes, his son, ascended to the throne. During his reign, Artaxerxes I suppressed several revolts in the empire, including those in Egypt and Babylonia. He also negotiated the Peace of Callias with Athens, ending the Greco-Persian Wars.
