The Oslo Accords were signed by Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian leadership in 1993. These agreements were historic because they marked the first time that Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) had recognized each other as legitimate political entities. The accords also called for the creation of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
