Before he became Prime Minister, Yoshihiko Noda was a politician. He was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, in 1955. He studied economics at Waseda University and worked as an economist before entering politics. He was first elected to the Japanese Diet in 1993 and served as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries from 2008 to 2009. He became Prime Minister in 2011 and served until 2012.
