Yuri Oganessian was born on 14 April 1933 in Baku, Azerbaijan. He is a Russian nuclear physicist and the director of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, Russia. He is best known for his work on superheavy elements, and he has been credited with the discovery of 11 elements, including oganesson, the heaviest element known to man.
