Yusra Mardini competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She was a member of the Refugee Olympic Team, which was made up of athletes who were refugees from their home countries. Mardini was born in Syria, but she fled the country in 2015 after the Syrian Civil War began. She and her sister swam across the Mediterranean Sea to escape to Europe.
