Answer
Zbigniew Brzezinski was a hardliner on Poland–Russia relations, which he believed to be a strategic competition for control of Eastern Europe. He was a proponent of a policy of containment of the Soviet Union and argued that the United States should support Polish independence from the USSR. He also supported the Solidarity movement and the overthrow of the communist regime in Poland in 1989.
