Zersenay Tadese won his first world championship title at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. He won the men's 10,000 metres race in a time of 26:58.02, beating the Kenyans Daniel Komen and Benjamin Limo. This was Zersenay's first major international victory, and it helped to establish him as one of the top distance runners in the world.
