Zoran Zaev was the prime minister of North Macedonia from 2017 to 2022. He was succeeded by Dimitar Kovačevski, who was elected by parliament on January 16, 2022. Kovačevski is a member of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM), which Zaev also led. Kovačevski's election was seen as a victory for the SDSM, which had been in power since 2017.
