Abbas II was born in 1632, and his father died when he was just 7 years old. His uncle, Safi I, ruled as shah for the next 17 years, but Abbas II began to take on more power as he grew older. In 1649, when he was just 15 years old, Abbas II managed to have his uncle assassinated and became the sole ruler of the Safavid Empire.
