Abd al-Karim Qasim was born on November 21, 1914, in Tikrit, Iraq. He was a military officer and politician who served as the first Prime Minister of Iraq from 1958 to 1963. He was a leading figure in the 1958 Iraqi Revolution, which overthrew the Hashemite monarchy. Qasim was overthrown and killed in a coup d'état led by Abd al-Salam Arif in 1963.
