Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah served as a commander in the Rashidun army for 16 years. He was appointed to this position by the Prophet Muhammad in 632, and he continued to serve in this role until his death in 648. During his time as a commander, Abu Ubayda led the Muslim armies to victory in a number of battles, including the Battle of Yarmouk and the Battle of Qadisiyyah.
