Albert I reigned as King of the Belgians for 24 years from 1909 to 1934. He was born in Brussels in 1875 and was the eldest son of Leopold II, the second King of the Belgians. Albert I succeeded his father to the throne in 1909 and reigned during a period of great political and social change in Belgium.
