Albert's parents were Prince Philippe, Count of Flanders, and Princess Marie of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Philippe was a member of the Belgian royal family and Marie was a member of the German royal family. They married in 1875 and had four children, including Albert. Albert was born in 1879 and became king of Belgium in 1909. He ruled until his death in 1934.
