Which city did Farnese relieve during the French Wars of Religion?

  • Paris

  • Lyon

  • Marseille

  • Bordeaux

Answer

Paris was relieved by Farnese during the French Wars of Religion. In 1590, the Catholic League, supported by Spain, besieged Paris, which was held by the Protestant Huguenots. Farnese, the Duke of Parma and Governor of the Spanish Netherlands, led a Spanish army to relieve the city. He defeated the besieging forces and forced them to retreat, saving Paris from capture.
