Alexander Mackenzie was a Scottish explorer who was born in Inverness in 1764. He is best known for his explorations of North America, particularly the Mackenzie River, which he was the first European to navigate. Mackenzie was also a fur trader and mapmaker, and he published several books about his travels. He died in London in 1820.
