Prokhorov was a Soviet-Russian electrical engineer and inventor. He is best known for his work on the klystron, a vacuum tube that generates microwaves. The klystron was used in the development of radar and other microwave technologies. Prokhorov also made contributions to Theory of quantum electrodynamics, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1964.
