Alma Mahler was born in Vienna, Austria-Hungary, in 1879. She was a composer, writer, and painter who was married to three of the most famous composers of the 20th century: Gustav Mahler, Walter Gropius, and Franz Werfel. She was also a friend and patron of many other artists and writers, including Arnold Schoenberg, Oskar Kokoschka, and Rainer Maria Rilke.
