Isaac II Angelos was the Byzantine emperor from 1185 to 1195. He succeeded Andronikos I Komnenos, who was overthrown and killed by a popular uprising. Isaac II was a weak ruler and his reign was marked by political instability and military defeats. He was eventually overthrown by his brother Alexios III Angelos, who succeeded him as emperor.
