Andronikos I Komnenos ruled the Byzantine Empire for two years, from 1183 to 1185. He was a member of the Komnenos dynasty and the son of Emperor Manuel I Komnenos. Andronikos was a popular figure and was initially successful in his rule. However, he soon became unpopular due to his cruelty and his lavish spending. He was eventually overthrown and killed by his nephew, Alexios II Komnenos.
