Anna Chapman, a Russian-born American convicted of conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government, was living in the United States when she was part of a spy ring. She was arrested in June 2010 and pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges in August 2010. She was sentenced to 18 months in prison, but was released in June 2011 after serving 21 months.
