Anne Sullivan’s parents did not support her education. They were very poor and could not afford to send her to school. Instead, they sent her to work as a servant when she was only 10 years old. This experience gave her a strong work ethic and a desire to learn. She eventually taught herself to read and write, and went on to become a successful teacher.
