Archibald Cox was an American lawyer and legal scholar who served as Solicitor General of the United States from 1961 to 1965. He is best known for his role in the Watergate scandal, when he was appointed as special prosecutor to investigate the Nixon administration's involvement in the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in 1972.
