Armin Laschet was elected to the German Bundestag in 1994, representing the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). He has been a member of the Bundestag ever since, and has served in a number of different roles, including as the chairman of the CDU's parliamentary group. He is currently the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, the most populous state in Germany.
