Armin Laschet entered German national politics in 1994 when he became a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)'s national executive committee. He has held a number of senior positions within the CDU, including serving as party chairman from 2017 to 2021. He is currently the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany's most populous state.
