Seyss-Inquart served Austria as chancellor for only two days in 1938. He was appointed by Austrian President Wilhelm Miklas on 11 March 1938, following the Nazi Party's invasion of Austria the previous day. Seyss-Inquart immediately declared a state of emergency and dissolved the Austrian parliament. He then announced that Austria would be annexed by Germany, which took place on 13 March.
