In addition to discovering two of Mars's moons, Asaph Hall III was also famous for determining the mass of Mars. He did this by observing the way the planet's gravity affected the orbits of its moons. This information was then used to calculate the mass of Mars, which was found to be about one-tenth that of Earth.
