Aung San was a Burmese nationalist and independence activist who led the Burmese independence movement against the British Empire. He sought support from China for Burmese independence, and in 1941 he met with Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of the Republic of China. Aung San and Chiang Kai-shek agreed to work together to fight the British and Japanese.
