Who did Karmal replace as leader of Afghanistan after the Soviet intervention?

  • Hafizullah Amin

  • Mohammad Daoud Khan

  • Nur Mohammad Taraki

  • Mikhail Gorbachev

Answer

Karmal replaced Hafizullah Amin as leader of Afghanistan after the Soviet intervention. Amin was a pro-Soviet leader who had been installed by the Soviets after the Saur Revolution in 1978. However, he quickly fell out of favor with the Soviets, who accused him of being too independent. In 1979, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan and installed Karmal as the new leader.
