Barbara Hepworth was a leading figure in the colony of artists in St Ives during the Second World War. She was born in Wakefield, West Riding of Yorkshire in 1903 and studied at the Leeds School of Art from 1920 to 1921. She then moved to London to study at the Royal College of Art from 1921 to 1923.
