Bartolomeu Dias died on 29 May 1500, during his second voyage to India. He was on his way back to Portugal when his ship was caught in a storm and he was drowned. Dias was a Portuguese explorer who was the first European to round the Cape of Good Hope, which is the southernmost point of Africa.
