Benito Juárez's full name was Benito Pablo Juárez García. He was a Mexican politician and lawyer who served as President of Mexico from 1858 to 1872. Juárez was a Zapotec Indian, the first of his race to serve as President of Mexico. He is best known for his struggle to preserve the country's liberal constitution during the French invasion of Mexico in the 1860s.
