Berta Cáceres was born on 4 March 1971 in Intibucá, Honduras. She was a Honduran environmental activist who campaigned against the construction of the Agua Zarca Dam, a hydroelectric project that would have flooded the land of the Lenca people. She was murdered in 2016, and her death sparked protests across Honduras and internationally.
