Paul-Henri Spaak was appointed to the so-called Spaak Committee in 1955. The committee was created to study the issue of European integration and make recommendations for its future. Spaak was a Belgian politician who had previously served as Prime Minister of Belgium and as President of the European Parliament. He was a strong supporter of European integration and was instrumental in the creation of the European Economic Community (EEC).
